There are three main categories of titles i.e. publication, news agency and printing press. In each of these three categories registration certificate is issued for a period of three years.

REGISTRATION TYPES:
Registration is of two types i.e. Fresh and Renewal. A title when authenticated through declaration from concerned Deputy Commissioner office, it is registered with the Press Registrar Office. The publisher/ owner apply for registration through regional designated officers of Press Registrar all over the country.
FRESH REGISTRATION:
On authentication of declaration from concerned Deputy Commissioner office, a title has to be registered with the Press Registrar Office within 3 months of the declaration of title. On Fresh Registration, the Press Registrar allottes a specific registration number to the title that remains valid till 3 years.

RENEWAL OF REGISTRATION:
On expiry of registration certificate the owner/ publisher is bound to get it renewed within 3 months of date of expiry, failing which may lead to imposition of a penalty.
