Office of the Press Registrar is constituted in pursuance of section 39 and 42 of PNNBR Ordinance 2002. The Press Registrar is working under administrative and financial control of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Islamabad.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is a focal Ministry of the Government of Pakistan for all projection related activities and serves as a bridge between the Government, media and the people. The Ministry is also responsible to formulate and implement policies, laws, rules and regulatory framework concerning the print and electronic media and the news agencies. It also promotes and projects Pakistan's soft, progressive and democratic image within and outside the country.
